Rally on the Ravine begins today

The Rally on the Ravine is a community pride rally centered around the Battle of the Ravine, and it begins today. There are tons of family-oriented events this afternoon and tomorrow morning. I’ll be downtown this afternoon and tailgating in the HSU intramural fields in the morning.

Leadership Clark County Class II organized the Rally on the Ravine in furtherance of goals set in the Clark County Strategic Plan. These goals seek to more closely link our two most valuable assets, HSU and OBU, to the broader community at large. Please come out and help our community grow by supporting LCC.

Early voting continues...

Early voting continues today through Monday.

Herer in Clark County, early voters can cast their ballots at the Clark County  Courthouse. Tomorrow and Friday the Courthouse is open 8am–6pm.  Saturday, they’re open 10am–4pm, and Monday from 8am–5pm. Voting is the  least time-consuming, most important civic activity we can all do.  Please go vote!

Recycling in Arkadelphia

My Leadership Clark County group selected recycling as its topic, and I had a good conversation with our City Manager this morning about the Zero Waste Strategic Plan our city commissioned. Jimmy’s got some good ideas about some big challenges facing our community over the next decade or so. If you would like to share your ideas on how our citizens could implement recycling in Arkadelphia, I’d love to hear them.

Town hall meeting

I’ll be participating in a town hall meeting on the campus of Henderson State University in the Garrison Center Auditorium today at 5:00pm. We’ll be discussing the wet/dry issue and why A Vote for Growth believes Clark County should vote wet. The town hall is geared towards answering questions of HSU and OBU students and faculty, but everyone’s invited. Come on out.

Why I'm voting wet

1. Tax revenues for public schools
2. Educating children to make responsible choices
3. Up to 9.5% taxes on the sale of alcohol for the county general fund
4. Reduction of our $108,000,000 retail leakage to other counties
5. Alcohol-related traffic deaths are lower in wet counties
6. Long-term, sustainable growth like Mountain Home has seen
7. News reports of positive growth by other newly-wet communities
8. Personal freedom
9. As a growth model, being dry hasn’t worked for 70 years
10. Locally-owned stores are greener
